Things That Scare Me

Not a lot of things scare me, for I am Brave, and Filled With Courage, and Nigh-Fearless. I can also be Blissfully Unaware Of Danger, and Naïve, and Slightly Dim-Witted. All of which adds up to not many things scaring me.

I mean, sure, I’m not a fan of the open water. I’ve seen Jaws far too many times to fall for THAT particular trick. Oooh, let’s go swimming, they said, and POW! Instant shark attack. And sharks won’t just attack you once, oh no. If I have learned ANYTHING from movies, it’s that sharks/wild animals will always make it personal, and they will continue to hunt you down and pick your friends off one by one until you find a way to destroy them.

Attacked by a shark? Escape? Yeah, it’s not over, buddy. The shark is now STALKING you. It has tasted your blood and it wants more, and it will go to any length to get it. If that means it has to wait for a great big truck to pass your house, lugging a huge tank of water behind it (for some reason), then that is what the shark will do. And the moment you step out of your front door the shark will SPRING from the tank and eat you.

One of these days I’m going to be eaten by a shark, I just know it.

Apart from shark attacks, though, not much scares me. In fact, the only thing guaranteed to creep me out on every occasion is my own imagination. Well, that and serial killers.

Last night, Zodiac was on TV. It’s a David Fincher film, about the Zodiac killer that stalked San Francisco back in the 60’s and 70’s. He was never caught. The film is brilliant, and you really have to stay alert to keep up as it follows the cops and journalists through years of leads and clues and false hopes. And three or four times, we see the Zodiac killing, and those scenes are horribly real and terrifically scary. Movies like Saw or Hostel don’t scare me. They might make me wince, but they won’t scare me. I saw the remake of The Crazies the other night, and I loved it, and even though it got me with a couple of “BOO!” moments, it didn’t scare me. But those scenes in Zodiac got to me because they were so, so real, and so horrible, and you can put yourself in the shoes of the victims and try to figure out how you would acted differently, and you’ll come up empty.

So there I was, watching Zodiac alone in my house, late at night. I live outside of a small town, surrounded by fields and meadows and horses, and what that means on a practical level is that there are no street lights. So every single night, my house is surrounded by darkness. Look out a window you can see NOTHING except your own pale reflection against the black.

So Zodiac finished, and I laughed to myself to dispel any nerves, and I changed the channel and, in my infinite wisdom, began watching a program about serial killers on the loose in America. By the time THAT was over, with its tales of hitchhikers going missing and people vanishing off the face of the earth, I really didn’t want to walk through the house turning off all the lights.

The moment I flicked the switch and the room plunged into darkness, I just knew that the serial killer who had been hiding behind the couch all day would emerge, and slowly creep up behind me... Well, it would either be him or the shark, one or the other.

So I stayed where I was, watching the credits roll on the serial killer program. And I was aware of the window to my left. I generally don’t close my curtains at night. I like to be able to see if cars are approaching- I don’t like the idea of being cocooned in a house with no idea of what’s happening outside. So I sat there, with the curtains open, and the pitch black outside, and I had this eerie feeling that if I turned my head, if I looked, I would see a face at the window, looking back in at me. And that creeped me RIGHT out.

Naturally, turning my head is exactly what I did, because I hate being defeated by fears that my own imagination conjures up. So I turned my head quickly, so if there WAS a face at the window I’d catch it before it withdrew, and then I’d be able to charge out of the house after it, screaming and bloodthirsty and violent.

But there was nothing there. Obviously. Naturally. There was no serial killer out there, spying on me. After all, if a serial killer wanted notoriety, there are far more famous writers to kill before he'd ever get to me. Eoin Colfer, for example. Or Darren Shan.

(I am not advocating that serial killers go after either of these two nice people. I’m just saying, if you had a CHOICE...)

Ooooh I’m probably going to get in trouble for THAT comment.

So, satisfied that no one was watching, I changed the channel again, and I accidentally flicked onto a repeat of Two And a Half Men and I SCREAMED.

So what about you, my Minions? What ridiculous things scare you? And I’m not talking about spiders or moths or terrible sitcoms, I’m talking about ridiculous, unlikely things that could KILL you. (Yes, fine, Two And a Half Men could kill you, I’ll grant you that.)

My good friend Laura, for instance, has a terrible fear of being buried alive. Because of this, I can see such a fate befalling Valkyrie one of these days, I really can...

also, my friends say im the scariest person they know. maybe its cause im sadistic? meh who knows? i just thought it'd be important to tell all of you that i do NOTscare easy. all my friend try, and all my friends fail. i am perhaps the creepiest of all of them tho. i can sneak up on someone when im in front of them and "appear and disappear" from out of nowhere. also i'd like to think im a pretty good pick pocket.i've stolen some of my mom's chapstick out of her purse while she was having a conversation with me and it was on her shoulder. dispicable i know, but its fun to test your limits.

Anywhoo... I, too, watched Zodiac this weekend. For the first time, I might add. It was pretty creepy, especially the guy who brought the cartoonist down in his basement...creeperrrr. I was kind of surprised, though, that when I went to bed that night, I wasn't scared of every noise coming from downstairs. I went to sleep fine...needless to say, I woke up at about two o'clock in the morning and had trouble getting back to sleep, for I was suspicious of every shadow in that room...At least I had my dog with me, although he's a poodle :P Anywhoo, the only movie i have never been able to get through, was Silence of the Lambs. I didn't even get to the part about Buffalo Bill, that's how good Anthony Hopkins did at playing Hannibal the Cannibal. Anthony Hopkins shall be in one of my horror films in the future, I will make that my goal. He is so creepy and strange and truly seems like he could be a mental hospital patient. I applaud you, Anthony Hopkins, I applaud you. So, this weekend my father and I are watching a menagerie of scary movies this week, including Poltergeist, The Exorcist, Silence of the Lambs, Pandorum, and Shutter Island. And we've been watching a very addictive HBO series, or OLD HBO series, Tales from the Crypt. It's a fun series, I would suggest it to older audiences though because there's a lot of nudity, blood, killing, violence, harsh language, the occasional drug reference, and...too spare some's innocence I will name it...the dirty nasty >.< Those are the parts I don't like, but you can fast forward them most of the time. Just a heads up for you.

I, too, have a fear of serial killers and people stalking your house. It's rather creepy. But I doubt I'll be eaten by a shark, I'll probably be stabbed by a sting ray that's flying at me as I happen to be getting my garbage pails one day and a large truck with a tank of water strapped to its bed comes passing by. Curse that Steve Erwin for stealing my epical and very random death.

I also fear going to bed in any article of clothing that has a zipper on it...I will sleep pantsless if all I have are jeans and I'm sleeping in a tent outside in the middle of winter. Pantsless i tell you, pantsless. And now that you know my sleeping habbits I'll go into some other, slightly more rational fear...they're sitll rather irrational though. For example, I'm afraid of falling from great heights. I don't know why though because I rarely fall, I'm very balanced, and I'm a ballerina; it'd be a disgrace if I fell. I'm also very claustriphobic...I. like. space.

Also, you might have noticed a name change? That is because I have created a blog with blogspot that I shall review movies and books with. Mrpleasant-blog is still up, I just won't be posting with it anymore. So now my alias will be plain, Miep. Hopefully now people won't keep calling me mrpleasant-blog XD

The firsrt movies on my review will be Zodiac, the movies I watch this week, and Mr. Landy's films when I get my hands on them (:

Well I should go, this is probably going to be a super long post, so, sorry in advance ^^

I'm scared of seeing faces at windows.
I'm also scared of angry ghosts (you should put a ghost in your book, by the way, that would be great!)

Anyway, I'm going to ask a question. I'm not sure where to ask it (I'm like a deer caught in headlights, I really am..) so here goes:

Please, please, could you give me some tips on writing a book (particually a fantasy book), I really want to be a writer and I have already started my book, but advice would be great.

Great work on the books! I love Shudder and Finbar, and of course, Skulduggery and Valkyrie.

from, Jack.

luckily, i'm not scared of anything.
If you're scared of something it's not just because you're scared, it's your body protecting yourself, if that's true, my body doesn't give a damn.

Another Story By Dragona-Pine
(same characters)

Darren sat at his computer, staring dumbly at the screen, his favourite game. His fingers flitted across the key board as he was talking to his online-friend. On MSN, he was talking to John, his best friend, who lived just down the road. A warning box appeared on the screen. It read:

Downloading: 1%

This was normal, he was downloading things off a website, music to put on his mobile, but the graphics were screwed up, the warning box was blood red. "It might be the graphics card," Darren thought to himself. He brought up the Downloading box again, now it was 50%. Instead of saying 'Downloading MP3 Audio File,' it said 'Downloading MPAT-2381,' Now Darren was worried. He clicked Cancel, but it was having no affect, he tried twice more before restarting his computer. He didn't want his computer to get virus', he didn't need that. The glow of the lights became red, and the TV went into the random pixels of black and white. His computer wouldn't turn back on. He walked into the Living Room, expecting a powercut, but everything was normal, exept the red glow which illuminated the floor, coming from all the electrical equipment in the house.
Meanwhile, in the TV cable, leading up to the Satalite Dish, the red glow crept up the copper on the inside of the wire. After around 10 minuites, it reached the top, and slowly but surely, it uploaded itself into space...
Darren watched in horror as a face appeared on the TV. A face which once would have been friendly looking, but had been clearly twisted by rage.
"Human," it said,
"You mean, um, me?" Darren asked, he was used to weird things happening, after that wolf buisness 2 years ago. But not in his house.
"You're Human aren't you?"
"Well, yes, i suppose"
"Listen up, I am loading myself up into space"
"Why?"
"Then I will spread myself to every computer and home in the planet, and then i will be in control of the world"
"Oh okay, I'm afraid I'm going to have to stop you"
And then the face dissapeared off the TV, and he heard it blast off into space...

Are you ever going to put werewolves in your books? tHat would be pretty cool.

The last story with them characters:
(please note, all stories are made up as i go along)

The Face On The Window...

Darren knew someone was following him, ever since he was born, he felt like he was being watched, all the time, the person just waiting until the time was right. Darren was a weird child, the was faster than anyone at his school, he could run 100m in 9 seconds, when he was 7! Although he was 14 now, he looked like a ten year old, people made fun of him because of that. He had the hair of a 14 year old, he had a few hairs under his armpits, but his face itself looked like he was ten. From the moment with the Werwolf, he knew he was destined to deal with the Abnormal. When he was eight, he broke his leg, he was climbing on a play area toy when he fell, and his leg got stuck on a rope as he fell, so it broke the bone just below his knee, it healed within 5 days, the doctors put it down to his treatment, a new drug, but he knew it was something more. One night, he found himself staring out of the window. He could make out a face staring at him. A fist smashed through his window sending glass shards all over the carpet. A man stepped in through the window. He was tall, pale and had a uneven hair style, which was thin.
"It is time, to meet your destiny," the man said
"Um, no thanks, why anyway?" Darren asked
"In a few days, lets just see if you want to think about it again"
Darren went to school the next day, and him and his friends were playing football, Darren was the best striker, there were better players than him, goalkeepers and defenders, but he could score 5 goals each day without fail.
One of his friends, Alan, was running towards the same ball as Darren, Darren was faster, and as he kicked the ball towards the opposite teams goal, him and Alan collided, Darren wasn't hurt, he didn't even stumble, but Alan was send flying a couple of metres, before landing on his knee, which was bleeding.
To Be Continued...

Dragona Pine said...

Now...

Darren took a stride towards Alan, wondering if he was alright, but something took over him, a urge for something which he couldn't really put his finger on, a metally sort of taste, Blood.
Darren went down to his knees, and put his mouth to the wound in Alan's knee, and started drinking the blood...
He tried to stop himself, but it tasted so good to him, it tasted better than chocolate. He wouldn't have stopped, exept he could see the terrified faces of his friends, and his teamates in football watching him. He stood up again.
"I am the vampire lord, i will suck the blood out of all of you!" Darren laughed, Alan's blood dripping from his lips.
"Eww, thats gross," A girl said, from the year below him,
Even Alan was laughing, "I was worried about you for a second there"
"Ha, you should have seen the look on your faces"
The rest of the school day went in a blur, he tuned out of all the lessons, not paying attention. When he got home, he raced up the stairs and thought about what he'd nearly done to Alan.
The man came through the window again, "Ready yet?"
"What am I?"
"A Vampire"
"Who are you?"
"A Vampire"
Darren struggled to his draw and took out a cross on a necklace,
"Be gone, Banished from this house"
Darren waved the cross infront of his face, the ginger vampire just laughed. He took the cross and bent it in his hands, like it was putty.
Darren went to his draw again, and took out the Vital of holy water, given him to his Aunt and Uncle. The Vampire uncorked it, and then threw his head back and drank it.
Darren raced into the kitchen, took a whole garlic and went back up to his room, the Vampire was still stood there when he got back.
He handed the garlic to the Vampire and he pretended to choke. After a moment of pretending to choke, he popped it in his mouth and started chewing.
To Be Continued...

Dragona Pine said...

Now...

After a minuite of wondering what to do, Darren finally accepted it.
"Do you want something to drink?"
"Blood"
"Besides Blood"
"Lemonade?"
Darren walked into the kitchen and poured the vampire a glass of lemonade and took it into the room, being careful not to spill any.
He handed the lemonade to the vampire.
"Want anything to eat?"
"What have you got?"
"Some leftover pizza from last night"
"That'll do"
Darren dissapeared again and came back up with the pizza and a knife and fork.
He gave them to the vampire.
"Thanks"
The Vampire tucked in to the Pepperoni pizza left overs and when he was half way through, chewing the crust with his teeth, there was a snapping sound, and when he brought the fork out of his mouth, he'd bitten the end off!
"Oh i am sorry"
"It doesn't matter"
"If you're a vampire, where's your fangs?"
The vampire laughed.
"Fangs, what on earth are you on about?"
"I've seen the films"
"The legend of the fangs came from our extra hard teeth"
"Turn into a bat then"
He laughed again.
"Humans do believe some rubbish"
"I'm not human apparantly"
"Well human's raised you"
The Vampire pointed to the birth mark on his neck.
"You want to know how you got that?"
"I had it when i was born"
"Lie"
"Go on then, tell me"
"When i turned you into a vampire"
"You did this!?"
"Yes"
"You sly old..."
The vampire moved across the room in a blink of an eye, and clamped his hand down on his mouth.
"If you speak another word, I'm going to tear your neck open and make you choke on your own blood"
To Be Continued, tomorrow

Well, the only 'real' thing that scares me is spiders but I seem to have gotten over that and I can now handle tarantula's without screaming my head off. There's probably other stuff I can think off (and I don't want to)

But at the same time I have an over active mind and what I like to call 'Fear O Vision' where I seem to make myself freak out quite easily. That coupled with me being somewhat claustrophobic is bad and being of a rather nervous disposition isn't helping either.

One thing that doesn't help is if I'm walking with someone and then they seem to disappear, you know when you go one way and they go the other, if I can see them there's no problem but if I can't oh boy... Also, I don't like walking alone sometimes as I've been bothered by creepy men and it makes me shudder, I used to get freaked out by walking past a graveyard near my house (there's a church near by) but that's less off an issue (I'm more scared of the drunks that hang around there than the graves)

I can't do horror movies, I tried watching Nightmare on Elm Street and turned it off after about 10 minutes. One thing I found really terrifying wasn't a movie, it was a game. There's a series of games called 'Thief' and in the 3rd one there is a level right at the end where you have to go through an abandonded/haunted insane asylum/orphange named the 'Shalebridge Cradle' I watched someone play it online and I think I haven't ever been so scared. It's hard to describe but it has been voted one of the 'scariest game levels of all time' so I'll leave it at that.

Let's see, I remember once totally bottling it at a camp because we had to do abseling. I freaked out at a laser tag arena, I had a panic attack in a shopping centre as the 'friends' I was with went sauntering off after we went into the toilers and I couldn't find them, I had a panic attack when I decided to let someone bury me in the sand, essentially I just freak out at stuff and a lot of what I get freaked out about is the result of my own stupid mind.

I was the sort of kid who got scared watching Disney movies, Malcifent, the Chenabog and the Lady and the Tramp rat were the worst.

Well I should go, this is probably going to be a super long post, so, sorry in advance ^^

okay, due to someone requesting that i carry on with the ghost story, i will do now.

John's ghost knocked on Darren's door. Darren came downstairs and unchained the door before looking through the key hole.
"Who is it?"
"John"
"Damn"
John's hand smashed through the middle of the door. Darren ran, John yanked the rest of the door of his wrist and started a pursuit with Darren.
Darren was running through the kitchen, he could see the white body and the black heart of John, just a few paces behind him. John was gaining speed with every second, as Darren was getting tired with every second. Darren slipped on the kitchen tiles, falling over, and then John leaped onto him.
John was pinning him down, he brought his fingers and made a blade shape, then pushed them through Darren's stomach.
Darren caught his hand milimetres away from his stomach. He prised John's hand away from his stomach and using all his strength, twisted John above his head, and sent him face first into the floor. While John was standing up, Darren ran into the garden, John was gaining on him, Darren turned and ran down the road.
Unexpecting the turn, John managed to flip himself over the fence headfirst, he recovered quickly and started running after Darren...

Darren was sprinting, but he was getting tired, after 10 minuites running, he was starting to get out of breath. John, with no breath to loose, was gaining all the same. John jumped onto Darren's back, knocking them both to the floor, John got his hand into the blade shape and stabbed it at Darren, Darren dodged the strike and then using his other hand, John punched Darren in the chest.
Darren felt all the breath go out of him, he was winded, while he struggled for breath, John struck him with the blade hand...
John's hand stopped a milimetre before his stomach. He could see John struggling to push his hand in, but there was an invisible force holding him back. John collapsed back, some black liquid coming out of his transparent nose.
John was becoming solid. Skin grew first, then hair, his face. Then he was back.
"John!" Darren shouted,
"Yeh, what?"
"Your back"
"From where?"
"Don't you remember?"
"Um,no"
"The house, you were killed, remember?"
"Yeh, I'm not going to die again"
"How come you're alive?"
"When I tried to kill you, I stopped it"
"OK?"
"Yeh"
"So, whats been happening?"
Darren filled him in on the recent events, from in the house until now, and then John laughed,
"It's been a rough oouple of nights"
"It has"
"Lets go to the house again"
"Why?"
"To get my own back"
"ALright"
They walked into the house again, up the crumbling staircase, and back into the bedroom.
The ghost was there, staring out of the window.
It hadn't seen them, if it had, it was doing an extremely good job of hiding it.

Yes Fudge-Cake tell us the story.

Darren and John tip-toed towards the ghost. They were making no sound at all, they didn't think the Ghost had seen it. John's ringtone rang in the bedroom, the the tune of 'Ghost Busters',
"Perfect timing John"
"Sorry"
The Ghost turned around.
"You AGAIN!" The Ghost Shouted.
"You were expecting someone else?" Darren replied
"More food for me"
The Ghost raced towards them, Darren and John rolled out of the way, and the Ghost bashed head first into the wall, it's head jammed through from the bedroom into the bathroom. While the Ghost struggled, Darren went to the Army Surplus Shop, and 'Borrowed' a machine gun, when he got back, the Ghost was still in it's position, Darren shot the Ghost, and the Ghost just laughed.
"You don't expect to kill me with that do you?"
"Yeh"
"Not going to work Darren" John sighed
"Damn, RUN!" Darren shouted and the two boys ran out of the old house.
"Only an immortal weapon can kill it"
"Where we going to get one of them?"
"Shamshir-e Zomorrodnegar," John said
"Shamy Zorro What?"
"Shamshir-e Zomorrodnegar," John repeated,
"What's that?"
"Come on, tell me you read that book at school, english remember?"
"What book?"
"Persian myths"
"Never heard of it"
"Ok, long ago, there was a demon called
Fulad-zereh, he kidnapped people,"
"Ok?"
"His mother was a witch"
"Family resembelance?"
"She made a charm on him, to be unhurt by any weapon, exept the Shamshir-e Zomorrodnegar," John continued, egnoring Darren's comment.
"Then him and his mother were killed by
Amir Arsalan, with the sword"
"So you think that the Ghost is Fulad-zereh in the house with his head stuck in the wall?"
"No not exatly, I think it's part of him"
"Baby Fulad?"
"Anyway, where do you think we're gunna get this Shamy Zorro thing?"
"I think I know"

ahh, dan the duck, i got that from a youtube video :D

Dragona Pine said...

Darren and John had been mining for about an hour now, it was a week since the last meeting with the Ghost, which now they think is a descendent from Fulad-zereh, a persian demon.

The mine was cold, congested and wet, a little stream ran through the middle of it, they were in Iran, a country which was once known as Persia. They were getting further and further down the mine until it opened up into a Cavern, they payed for their flight with their spending money, which their mum said they ought to buy cars with.
"I, uh, I think ive found it," Darren shouted, his voice echoing around the cavern. He lifted it up, it was a normal looking sword, exept on the handle it had a emerald and on the tip of the handle, a gleaming blue sphere.
"Right, lets go back to the house"
A week later, after getting home and having some rest, they finally decieded to go for it, to kill the ghost.
Darren was first up the crumbling staircase, and into the bedroom, the ghost was still there, but without it's head stuck in the wall.
Without words, threats or even talking, Darren walked up to the ghost, and stabbed it with the sword.
The Ghost dodged, and took out a sword of his own, Darren didn't know what it was, but he could tell it was magical. The Ghost swung his sword at him, and only just managed to block it, but the force of the blow made his sword fly through the air, and land on top of a photo copier type machine, the only modern thing in the house. There was a soft whining sound, and Darren rushed to the machine to collect his sword, but when he opened the lid, there was two swords.
"I see you've found my cloning machine" The Ghost said,
"Why have you got it?"
"You'll see"
An Army of Ghosts just appeared infront, behind and to the side of Darren, he was surrounded.
"Try get out of that then"
"Your the boss," Darren replied cheekily and nodded towards the Ghost politly.
The Army of Ghosts took a step forward and Darren lashed out, killing one ghost, and sending the tip of the sword into the ghost behind it's face!
He took his swords out and counter attacked with both his swords, he mowed down half the Army in less than ten seconds, one took a swipe at him, so he blocked the shot with one sword, and ripped the ghost's belly open with the other.
After finally taking care of the army, the set his sights on the Ghost which had caused him problems since the beginning.
The Ghost had also cloned his sword so they were both evenly matched, exept the Ghost couldn't get tired. The Ghost swung both swords at the same time, nearly breeching Darren's defenses, but Darren was fast, so he brought his sword up just in time, and sparks flew from the tips as they collided.

Dragona Pine said...

To answer your question about cliffhangers, if i didn't do it then i would run out of space then the comment wouldn't be published (max characters 4096)

Darren moved his swords like a blur, striking the Ghost, but not seriously injuring him. The ghost attacked him, so he blocked it, went underneath his sword arm, which was up in the air, brought his sword behind him, and put it to both sides of the Ghost, then in a second, he moved both swords inwards, cutting the Ghost in half!
The Ghost screamed, and shouted
"Koskhol" which from the information that John had said, was a Persian swear word.
"Right then, what weird and immortal creatures next on the list then?" Darren asked John
"Um, I think there's a Dragon terrorising a village in Asia," John said, looking at an imaginary list.
"Very funny"
But what they didn't know was, John had meant it as a joke, but it was no joke, but they would find out soon enough...

If anyone wants to me to do that story, please say so.

Me, I'm a complete scaredy cat when it comes to films. I feel sorry for anyone who has to sit next to me in the cinema, because at the sight of the tiniest bit of blood I want to hide under the seat and whimper. Even when I watched Hot Fuzz at a friend's house, I thought the film itself was hilarious but I nearly ran out of the room at every murder scene. Mu friend thought this was hilarious, especially the church spire bit.
Anyway, I couldn't help thinking when I read your blog, if my sister knew your number she probably would have called you that night and said something like "Who is this? WHAT ARE YOU DOING AT EDGELY'S HOUSE?!"
She has a cruel sense of humour, let me tell you.

yeh Fudge-Cake tell us the serial killer one.
I'm typing a different story now, guaranteed to get your spine tingling...

Italy : 1608

Alfonso was just getting off to sleep, he lived with his mum and dad, in a brick house just outside Venice. Christmas wasn't too far away, just another week. But that night, was when the voices began.
"We want you"
"Death will welcome you"
"Murderers"
"Come here Alfonso"
"We will kill you and paint the town red with your blood"
His mum and dad were sleeping downstairs, no matter how much he shouted, they couldn't hear him.
Alfonso saw a flash of silver, then the only thing he felt was pain. Coming up from his finger. He looked at his hand. Then he realised, he had no fingers left. He screamed in agony, as one by one, the voices started cutting his fingers and toes off.
Pain. Pain was the only thing Alfonso felt, he had no fingers, no toes, they had cut them off. He could hear one of the voices walk down the stairs, and come back up with a fork.
One of them jammed the fork into his eye. More pain, Alfonso was crying. He couldn't lash out, as he was tied to the bed, he could only watch, well he couldn't, they flicked his eyeballs out of their sockets.
Excruciating Pain, all the had for eyes now were a pair of forks, jammed into his eye sockets.
From downstairs, a voice came up with one of his dads rusty old saws, and started sawing his legs off just below the knee. He could feel the rust going into his bone, they had almost taken half of it off. A voice cut out his tongue, so he couldn't scream, and the voice told him that he was going to pin it the the wall, with the rest of the detached body parts. Alfonso passed out, and the last thing he felt before he died, was pain.
His mum walked up the landing, completly unaware, she was coming up to check on Alfonso, as she did every night. Written on the door in blood was: You're lllll minuites late. Put the number, was in Alfonso's fingers, and below it, his toungue pinned to the wall. She walked in the room, in the bed, lay Alfonso with no arms, no legs, a stab wound to his stomach, no eyes. She wondered where the eyes were, they were danging from the ceiling from the veins. One of his hands were in his mouth, and the other, was pinned to the bedpost. His mum felt a sharp stabbing pain in her back, before she died on top of her son...

Have you ever seen the Saw movies? I have only seen the first two, but I reckon they are pretty good. Good story line and I like how they have referrence to the first movie in the second one.

Not much scares me, as I watch quite a few horror films and such. But today while I was on the bus, my window was open and a big trailer-truck thing overtook us and made the loudest banging noise that scared me so much I'm still getting over it. But I suppose thats really more beind startled than scared. Still...

Book out soon. Oooo, will it be ready in time??? PRESSURE! But I look forward to it... except my friend that I borrow the books off of decided to MOVE SCHOOLS! So now I either have to find him, find someone else, or buy it. I don't really want to buy it without buying the others, but I don't really want to buy them, just read them... UH :(

Is ok. I will get over it!

late that night she heard the baby start to cry upstairs she paused the program she was watching and headed hastily up the staires ..

when up there she tried everything the mother had told her to get her back to sleep but it didnt work, she then realized after trying to change feed and comfort the baby was the reason it was crying was because of a clown statue i the bedroom ...

she called the babies mum and asked her if it would be alright to take the clown statue out of the babies room .. the mother replied drunkily " what are you talkin about there aint no clown statue in that room"

The baby sitter went back into the room with the baby in her hands and looked at the spot where the statue was but it wasn't there ...

When I walk down the dark corridor it feels like there is someone behind me and I always have to look behind me to reassure myself. But the feeling never goes away and it really freaks me out. Does anybody else get that feeling?

okay... so when we were in english we had to write a novel for an assesment. it was kinda a long term thing. mine was about this girl who had like physic abilities and could like transfer that energy into people to heal them or transfer it to like other parts of her body or heer whole body to protect her from harm. so basically she couldnt get hurt right?

sooo i was going to write the first chapter on this blog but hten i thoght that maybe some people would think that that was stupid...

you see it starts off when shes young and she hasnt realised what she can do yet.

my teacher thought it was quite good. so i thought i could ask you all would you mind terribly if i posted the first chapter?

i have a ot of time on my hands you see at the minuite. cuz i do a volentary job. i know im a saint. (oj im far from it) but my job is only a couple of days a week and i go walking somedays too but because i live in ireland its not really walking weather soooo i dont go that often.

also because all my friends are like from dungiven and toome etc which is far away from where i live so im basically aloner who has absolutly nothing to do!!!!!!!

so thats why i thought i could post the chapter up cuz it would take me a ehile to write it out and then take in all of your hopefully constructive critizism cuz i think youll all think it is stupid!!!!!

shewhofallsupstairs said...

but i hope you dont think its stupid so if you would like to see it please tell me

Another Story: MADE UP AS I GO ALONG, PLEASE NOTE

Darren had won a prize. He had entered a competition on a tv programme for two tickets to a country side part of China. Darren naturally gave the other to John, as there were too little amount of tickets to give to him and his family. His family were ok with him going with John, they said he was a good influence on Darren. He had still got the sword in his bag from a year ago, the Shamshir-e Zomorrodnegar, he never went anywhere without it. He had taken it's clone aswell, the one that'd come out of the Ghost's cloning machine. Him and John were looking out of the window whilst on the plane to China. They could see the clouds wizzing past them like fluffy white bullets. An hour passed quickly, they felt a soft bump as they landed at Harbin Taiping International Airport. From there, they took at taxi to the nearest bus station, and took a bus to where they were staying. It was not what they had expected.
"Win a luxury trip to China it said" John said sarcastically,
"Yeeehh right" Darren laughed as they were just stood staring at the burned down houses. There was a mountain in the background. All of a sudden, they heard a terrible roar.

There was fog overhead. They couldn't see anything above 30 metres up in the air. They could hear the gentle flapping of bird winds somewhere over head. But it was no bird. Darren hadn't realised, neither had John. High in the fog, the beast nose dived towards Darren and John. Darren heard a screech, then more flapping of wings, louder, and closer. Darren dived to the floor as the Dragon came and narrowly missed Darren with it's nose dive. It came to a land just infront of Darren, and John was somewhere behind him. The Dragon started puffing up, it's stomach getting bigger. Darren turned and ran to John,
"What is it?" Asked Darren,
"Do you know when I said there's a Dragon in Asia a year ago?" John asked,
Darren cast his mind back, "Yeh"
"I was right"
"So this is a Dragon?"
"Yes"
"What's it doing?"
"What are Dragons famous for?"
Darren thought, Dragons were flying lizards, WHICH COULD BREATH FIRE!!!
"Hell" Darren said
The Dragon opened it's mouth and sent twin streaks of orange fire at Darren and John...

Derek don't worry, remember whenever you are threatened your loyal minions will jump out of nowhere to defend you. Then we slurk back into the shadows. And I know how to beat up a shark.

I'm afraid of the dark (because of the Vashta Narada hiding there) and every time I open a door I think I will see a Weeping Angel or that thing from Goblin but he doesn't scare me. I still go by this things though for I am weird and poke the sleeping bear with the stick.

Spiders but I just imagine there's one climbing over me to desensitive me. (lies I ran away last night cuz I thought I saw one lurking around).

Bugs

Slugs and snails, just ....eurgh.

Twitards terrify me. I avoid places where they may congregate.

Jellyfish. Also, Australia (it is the country of death!)

Ginat Squids/ octopi.

Daleks don't scare me but being turned into a Cyberman kinda does (Why is Doctor Whoo the source of all my fear?)

I should be afraid that whenever I go to any height I just want to jump off. I don't know why.

I was like three when I first saw Jurassic Park, and I laughed when the people got eaten. Horror movies don't scare me and Zombies are my friends!

My imagination can no longer scare me. Acctually it can. I'm afraid of what it's working on right now to terrify me.

I have no mouth and I must scream scares me. Just the computer and what happens to the guy in the end. Also having an operation done but the seadative and anesthetic wears off tbut the parylyzer still works and no-one noticing !wouldn't be very good on me. And bear attacks. I like my eyeballs in my head.

@Janice Smae here. Butterflies freak me out man. Or woman. Or robot. I don't judge.

@IversonSoyenbean Don't be afraid.. They just want to love you albeit in a very painful and eating you alive way. It's just too much love to handle.

@Dragona Pine I think we have done enough to poor Darren. Let us leave him in peace.

@Daniel The episo was Blink. Also Fleash and Stone and The Time of the Angles featured them, or were you trying to protect the masses? Oops.

@~Hellboy~ Hey she didn't know about angels yet. It'ss not like there some guide to being the Doctor's Companion. You learn as you go. Or die.

@Lily We're not afrais of the shadows, we're afraid of what's in the shadows (when it's not us). Things you can't run away from and can't fight. And the Angels are creepy and what they do to you is terrifying. You end up far away (not telling where you might land) from everyone you love and everything you know. And that's if your lucky. And how do you beat them? Break them and they come back! Daleks are not that scary but that's cuz the hate pushes the fear away or love in the case of the Dalek from 'Dalek'. And the most terrifying thing is what if it does?

@Lenka Tear off the bandages, blow them away with a fan and you'll be fine. Or Brendan Fraser will come and sve you. One of the two.

@~ Imy ~ I agree. Vending machines are evil spawn

@alix Luck! Of the good variety!

@Geckogirl That is absolutely true. And The Empty Child was terrifying and I knew how it was going to end. The voice and the mask, pure Nightmare Fuel.

@kookie_lynn nice

@penguin It was Martha, not Rose.

@rowan It's a spike club people carry around with them when it's wet and sometimes hard to see, would you feel safe?

@Odile I get that too. Turning around does not help.

@alix Beautiful Cratures, anything by Terry Pratcett, books by John Green, books by Maureen Johnson, Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld, The Olympians series, All Unquiet things and the Graveyard Book. All I can think of right now.

And now after replying to every single person here I say good bye. And remember everybody liek Susan Sto-Helit said, "Don't get frightened, get angry."

"people who investigate weird noises in scary movies DESERVE to die!!"

First of all, Dragona Pine and Asya, AWESOME stories.

I want to be an author but I have absolutely NO imagination, NOTHING! NONE!!!!! NOOOOOOOOO IMAGINATION!!! NOTHING! My idea of an awesome story is...well...Skulduggery Pleasant, but I mean, to think of a story like that, with such AWESOME CHARACTERS AND PLOT LINES, you need imagination, which is something I don't have. I mean, seriously, who would have thought of the idea of a SKELETON DETECTIVE THAT CAN THROW FIREBALLS other than our golden god, Mr. Landy.

Seriously, the most exciting story i wrote was when I was 7, and it was about some girl who found out her Dad was evil and some other junk like that. I mean seriously, SERIOUSLY, SOMETHING WAS LEFT OUT OF MY BRAIN WHEN I WAS BORN, OR I WAS DROPPED ON MY HEAD AS A BABY CAUSE I HAVE NOOOOOOOOO IMAGINATION!!!!

Come on! (No offense 2 twilite fans this is just my opinion)Twishite has the most lame plot line known to man, and yet it's still one of the msot popular books in the world! Why! Why! OH WHY GOD WHY!!!!!!!!!! AT LEAST THE WRETCHED WOMAN WHO WROTE THE BOOK HAD A BIT OF IMAGINATIO! EVEN IF SHE DID USE IT TO MAKE THE MOST DISGUSTING THING THIS WORLD HAS EVER KNOWN!!!!!!!

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!! I need to find something to give me an imagination...OH I KNOW!!!!!! A CHOCOLATE BAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, tips for getting a taken name:

1. First part - should suit you, suggestion, shorten the name of something you like, and add a letter or so on the end of it.

2. Second part - Should suit you again, sounds good if it's 1 or 2 sylables.

3. Suiting you - have a taken name which applies to you, your personality etc.

There you go, your name!

I have a wild imagination i freak out over some silly things like watching something scary in the dark is what i like to do cause it is a thrill but at the same time it freaks me out. when the show/movie ends i do not want to move. i like getting a thrill out of being scared some times. but it is scary when you are camping and every thing is quiet. the quietness is more scary then noise out in the bush. but like i said it is a thrill. I am also like Derek thinking that there is some one there looking at me through the window. sometimes i am almost to scared to look.but i will always eventually turn my head. but it is even more scary when you go bush walking in the dark at 10:00 at night. with a torch the is not even that bright. You always feel like there is something lurking out of the torch light. Not that much scares me. But what i more like is a good scary thing. Like when you are riding down a hill on a bike in the bush. But the bikes brakes do not work. it feels like you are going to die but of course you do not.

Previously...

Darren and John had gone to a countryside part of China, as they had won a prize, they arrived at the village, finding burned down buildings, then they had come face to face with a dragon, so John's Joke had been correct. The Dragon sent two jets off fire at them...

Darren rolled out of the way, he felt the lick of the flames on his back. John also rolled, it was a closer call, but he still didn't get roasted. Darren took out the two versions of the Shamshir-e Zomorrodnegar. He walked up to the Dragon and swung his sword, the blade connected with the scales on the underside of the Dragons stomach, but bounced off straight away and the vibrations made Darren let go of the sword, and it bounced a couple of metres away, he dived for it, but the Dragon lowered his head and sent more fire at Darren. Darren fell to the floor, his top alight, he rolled around on the floor until it doused the flame and then he concentrated on the Dragon. It extended its claws and dived towards John, with a startled yell, he was picked up. Darren grabbed onto the Dragon's horns, gripping tightly, he hauled himself up onto the Dragon's back and just studied how magnificent it was.
It was green, it had horns on the back of it's neck and it's wingspan was around 20m, it was MASSIVE!
A man jumped out of one of the buildings, all the way up to the Dragon which was nearly in the clouds. He was wearing a black suit of armour and carried a sword, which gleamed in the light. The Dragon payed no attention to the Knight as he pushed Darren over the edge of the Dragon, through the clouds, and back to the ground...

Dragona Pine said...

Darren's hand shot out as he was falling, clutching to it's claw, the one that John was being helled in. The Knight climbed down off the Dragon's back and came to help them, or so they thought.
The Knight swung his sword, narrowly missing Darren, the Dragon looked down to them, and Darren shouted something completely random, and hoped it worked.
"Stop" Darren shouted,
The Dragon started to hover.
"Let us go" Darren shouted,
Darren didn't know wheather it was working, or was it pure coincidence?
"Let us go" Darren shouted,
The Dragon uncurled it's claws and nudged Darren over the edge with John, back through the clouds.
Darren and John were rescued by a flash of blue light. The impact winded Darren, and he was not sure about John. The blue light, was a Saphire blue Dragon, the scales were blue, the same colour on top and on it's underside. The blue Dragon lowered altitude and landed them on the ground.
"John?"
"Yeh?"
"What happened?"
"Dragon, another one, saved us"
"How many Dragons can there be?"
"I don't know"
They looked up at the blue Dragon, it was just stood there, looking at them, as though expecting an order.
"What's it doing?" Darren asked,
"Waiting for an order" John replied
"So how do you talk to a Dragon?"
"I read somewhere that only a person who has bonded with a Dragon can talk to them?"
"And where is a person like that?"
"The knight on the green Dragon"
"I think he's a bad guy"
"Yeh"
"So who else?"
"Lets Try"
"Set the hay bale alight" John said, and nothing happened.
"See, we aren't one of them" Darren said
"You try"
"Okay, I will do" Darren replied
"Set the hay bale alight" Darren repeated John's command.
Nothing happened for a second, then the Dragon unfolded it's wings, and flew up in the air. It had left them.
Travelling faster than a bullet, the Dragon flew back to the ground, and was hovering 10 metres away from the bale, and it opened it's mouth and streaks of fire enveloped the bale, burning it to ash.
"Wow" Darren exclaimed
"See, You are one of them people"
"But I haven't bonded with a Dragon, and I don't talk their language"
"Not In This Time Period You Haven't" A voice replied behind them, and there, stood the Black Suited Knight.
"So you saying that Dragon's lived in the past?" Darren asked,
"Yes, and later on"
"I haven't seen a Dragon before, I didn't think they existed"
"They were alive in the past, and will be again in the future"
"So who are these ones?"
"Dragon's have no need for names"
And then The Black Suited Knight charged at Darren.

Hmm, some interesting fears out there. A lot of you seem to be scared of me dying. This would be really sweet, but then you go on to say- “...before you finish the Skulduggery series”... Which makes me feel slightly less loved.

But mostly, the fears centred around clowns, sharks, creepy girls crawling out of TVs, zombies, statues, black holes, serial killers (that one is the most understandable) and, um, nasal sprays.

Nasal sprays...?

And now, some questions.

Troy asked who inspired me to write. It wasn’t one particular person, it was just the fact that I’ve always loved reading, and always loved writing, so it was never even a choice for me. It’s just something I was meant to do.

He then asked how did I get my books to be well known. There is no formula for this- if there was, every book would sell really well, and the fact is, every book doesn’t sell really well. It’s all about if people like what they read, and if they tell their friends.

Valora, if you were to order Mortal Coil now, you’d have to wait until September to get it, unfortunately. Now, you MAY be lucky, and receive it 2 or 3 days before it’s officially released, but there is no guarantee. It’s up to you!

Claudia, good luck in the exams!

Abbi asked if Skulduggery will ever be turned into Manga. I’m sure he’ll appear in comic form sooner or later, it all depends on when I can devote my time to it.

Abbi also asked if Caelan will be in further books- and all I’ll say is that I have big plans for that vamp...

Bethany, I love your suggestion of Bradley Cooper as Sanguine! Brilliant!

Alexandre, yes I do remember you! And I love your name...!

English is the spoken language of Ireland, but Irish is the native language. I can’t really speak it, though.

Oh, and if you ever publish a book, of course I’ll buy a copy!

The man with the golden eyed is going to pop up a bit over the next few books. That’s all I’m saying about him...

Holly, I haven’t read Wired in years... Must buy a copy. As for a whether I’d make a cameo if we ever make the film, I’d say there’s a chance. So long as they make me look beautiful.

Oh, and I’m a total geek.

Failing that, could you post some writing tips? I want to be an author.

Failing THAT (you let down, you) could you check out my blog?

THANKS. =D

so i decided not to post my chapter because i am scared of critisim.

Roisin i watched sherlock last night and it was class!!!!! INCREDIBLY AWSOME!!!!!! and really funny. it was all about these chinease smugglers called the black lotas who used acient chinease numbers to communicate with their workers( normal people who smuggled stuff in and out of china)

the numbers where references to pages and words in the book london a-z.

they sent out the numbers 15 and 1 to three people as a warnning.( it refers to the word deadman) because they think one of them got greedy and stole something form them while that person was smuggling.

so then they came and killed them. in the mean time the black lotas think that john is sherlock and kidnapp john and his date and try to kill his date.

the thing that was stolen turns out to be a hair pin worth 9 million pounds!!!!!

soz ive just totally spoiled it for you you should watch it!!!!

i cannot believe that theyre only making 3 episodes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okaii I know girls crawling out of TV's doent seem that scary but it is ... sure serial killers are kinda freaky but there are none in the uk at the moment plus they only go after people who get drunk and wonder around by themselves ...

okaii as for sharks okaii i know they seem scary but coconuts kill more people every year than sharks do and thats actully a fact

so thinking of all these rational explainations for those fears kind of bring be back to mine and I know a girl will most likley never come out of my TV because it's impossible but I'm still scared any how so meh ...

The Empty child on Doctor Who scared the whits out of me. However there is one thing that scares me even more.... THE DEENTIST!! I can't stand it, I get panic attacks and I don't know why. I've never even had a bad experience, but I can't stand it. With all there tools and, you don't know what they are going to do in your mouth. They could be about to strangle you from the inside for all I know!!!

Dentists aren't evil, all they do is check your teeth and occasionally clean them, or do fillings and stuff.

Who else owns Driv3r? It's awsome!

My taken name really suits me btw. (username)

The Empty child was tacky, the fact that people were walking around in gas masks going "Muuummmyyy, Are You My Mummy?" was really tacky and boring, the gas masks were WWII gas masks, not used by zombies.

In your books Derek, the vampires are bad guys, well most of them are, but in Darren Shan's, the vampires are the good guys, all of them (exept Kurda Smalt who gets killed, but later Harkat Mulds finds out that he was Kurda in his previous life) anyone confused?

I like the Mummy films, their good.

I'll carry on with the story soon.

A way to get a good taken name is:
Thing of a name you like: you have your first name.
Think of an object or action: you have your second name.
Think of what type of magic would be most useful to you: you are now an Elemental/Necromancer/Adept.

my imagination scares me alot to but the thing that scares me the most - and i'm not scared of much, i'm really not- has got to be if any sort of killer came up to my friend or family with a gun and was going to kill them and i just stood there and watched and i couldn't control my body and help my friend or family member. -but being buried alive, yes i'm scared of that to but not being in control of my body at a critical situation like wat i said before wouldx just kill me inside i don't think i could live with myself if that happened i would die inside and yes i mean LITERALY die

oh dear... do you know the childrens TV program, Brum, with the cute little yellow car going round stopping the bad guys? THAT is scary. When I was a bit younger I ran out the room when it cam on... still can't stand it now. And no, I'm not strange.

One of my greatest fears is cotton wool. I know that sounds really stupid but the way when you put your fingers into it and it feels like they have dissapered...it's just disgusting!!!!! I am also scared of swimming pools and the bathtub. I still have showers but when I get into the bath or a swimming pool I freak out. I know this will sound even more stupid than the cotton wool thing but I'm terrified there will be a shark or whale in there with me. I'm pathetic, I know.

My greatest fear is the 'street' were I live in, I mean there are trees everywhere and when you walk down the street I swear that every time I imagine a guy with an awful distorced face jumping in front of me with a chainsaw and an realy evil laught coming out of nowhere ad then I die...
I guess now I'll be also scared of sharks since I have a poll in my house....
YOU JUST SCARED ONE OF YOU NINJA LEPRECHAUNS MINIONS DEREK LANDY AND YOU WILL HAVE TO LIVE WITH THAT MUAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beatriz Brandão said...

Oh and another thing that scares me its my imagination I mean sometimes when I go to sleep I sleep with my football with me because everyday I wake up with the felling that something is watching me (part of that fear is your fault Derek Landy because I always think that there is a living skeleton outside my window and that he will burn me to death...)

Stuff like Saw completely fails to scare me, but as a kid I got a CHRONIC fear of Gremlins. It's not gorey stuff that freaks me, or predictable, but stuff that toys with the mind, makes it imagine stuff from that movie... I love horror movies, and it's hard for me to get scared from one (other than cheap shot jumpy moments)

Some of my all-time favourites are: NIghtmare on Elm Street (original), The Hills Have Eyes (original + remake, Gremlins and Alien + Aliens.

All great films.

Oh my God Derek, this post had me laughing.

Of course, you will probably never SEE this comment, on account of the fact that this post is about 2 years old, but honestly, this post is hilarious.

You think the same way I do! I'm serious! The face thing? I'm so terrified of that! No joke!

My best friend tried to get me to watch Insidious, and let me tell you this: that did not go well for me.

I can watch blood and gore, I can watch heads be sliced off and you can stand outside the door and hear me laughing maniacally, but I can not watch Insidious.

The thing when the bloody hand prints appeared in the window? I'm terrified of that! Every night I look out the window, expecting to either see a hand print appear or a face... (possibly the face of CAELAN!)

When that head appeared behind that lady in the movie, though... (I can't believe I'm actually going to tell you this) I shrieked and screamed, "TURN IT OFF TURN IT OFF NOW!" and ran out of the room crying in fear...

Yeah, not my best day.

Besides, Insidious mixed some of my worst fears. The faces, the hand prints, being watched, and most of all... Little kids.

They are terrifying.

Vampires. Which is stupid. Which is why I am grateful to Steph Mayer for making Vampires sparkling and taking any dignity from them. Now they aren't scary anymore.
Clowns and dolls.Masks.
Spiders (even though I should not write that... but first, who are you to tell me what to write, and secondly I am phobic so it counts).
No serial killers. I just don't think they are scary... gross, yes, but only if they start eating their victims.
